The DEF system (Diesel Exhaust Fluid system) uses Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF), a urea-water solution, to reduce harmful nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions from diesel engines through a chemical process in a Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system. The system includes a DEF tank, pump, lines, and an injector that sprays the fluid into the exhaust stream, where it chemically converts NOx into harmless nitrogen and water vapor, helping vehicles meet EPA emissions standards.
